Ok, scroll down to the bottom if you want to go straight to this week's offering. I know, I know I said last week that I'd split up my updates between news and ramblings but it seems, at times, the two are intertwined and it doesn't make sense to split them up. And this week is one of those weeks. I mean why would I write about, what we want to be believe are, Prince-inspired potatoes that will be featured in this week's special in a completely separate blog post? So like I say, if you only want the 'menu' for this week and not a record of the inner workings of my (ridiculous) brain then scroll right down now.
So may I present to you the Purple Rain Potato, grown and very recently harvested just down the road at Audley End's kitchen gardens. And we are absolutely going to believe they were named after the Prince song (RIP Prince Rogers Melson). We've just taste-tested some for lunch, roasted and tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper and it was deeeee-licious. And this purple delight of a potato is the first result of, what we hope, will be a new collaboration with Audley End kitchen garden to get more of their wonderful produce out in Saffron Walden. We hope to use their seasonal, organic and super local produce for our bread additions wherever possible and in addition, and possibly even more excitingly, we want to use MMB as an outlet so that you too can get your hands on some of their produce.
MMB is only small but whilst we do not currently have any customers in the shop, or even when we do start allowing one or two people in, it makes sense to use the extra space to showcase other produce. Especially if it's produced locally and needs to get the appreciation and recognition it deserves. If we can help do that then that makes me very happy.
So this week we will be using Audley End potatoes (Purple Rain and Forest Gold) in our special - Potato & Rosemary Sourdough. And then keep an eye on these updates for news on when we will have other Audley End produce available to purchase to take home from MMB. Such a great opportunity.
In other news, this week we are salivatingly (not a word, I made it up, but it's appropriate so go with it) excited to properly launch our new bun - the Vanilla Bun (hmm, do we need to pimp up that name a bit do you think?). A few of you were lucky enough to try one last week when Super Sally trialled making them by the batch for the first time, and I think I'm right in saying they were a triumph. So Vanilla Buns (or how about Vanille Petit Pains? Too much?) will be on offer this week on both Friday and Saturday.
The Fen Farm Dairy Sykr yoghurt went down well with those of you that tried it last week, so much so that I've ordered more for this week. It's hard to believe that something that tastes so good is virtually fat free and full of lots of happy-gut bacterias etc. If you didn't try one last week then I urge you to give it a try this week.
And we still have some Baron Bigod cheese, also from Fen Farm Dairy. Which, for info, I know goes really well with Potato & Rosemary Sourdough!
Oh and I'm pleased to confirm that for the first time since lockdown we will be re-introducing our specials during the week so this week, if you place a pre-order for collection on Thursday, you will also be able to order the Potato & Rosemary Sourdough if the Saturday queue is not your thing.
Finally, we will be moving our Saturday opening time back to 10am. Saturday only to begin with. Thursday and Friday will remain at 11am for now.
