Hello
Well now the Christmas lights have been switched on in Saffron Walden, I think we can all agree that a little festive sparkle is now permissible, even obligatory, don't you? I knew you'd agree. Many of you have been kind enough to comment on our window display, created by the super talented Claire at Waterbaby Flowers. It took her all day and a fair part of the evening, stringing all those cotton wool balls onto the fishing wire individually. But we love it. It's especially lovely in the evenings when we are working later in the shop and this is our view. I'm sure you'll agree there are plenty worse views from an 'office' floor.
The feedback so far on our Christmas gifts offering has been positive and already people are starting to snaffle a few of our items into their shopping baskets when they visit, knowing we have limited numbers of everything. The pre-ordering option for the butter, Rugbrøds, cheese and hampers seems to be a popular decision too. Don't forget the deadline for placing orders for collection on Christmas Eve is Friday 13th December, which is just a little over two weeks away, and to help you make a decision on your cheeseboard additions we will be doing a tasting of both the Baron Bigod and the Truffled Baron on Thursday and Friday next week, and between 11.30 and 12.30pm on Saturday 7th December. So do pop in if you're passing.
As for this week, we have a lovely selection on offer. On Thursday we will have Walden Whites and Super Sours along with some of our Malted Multiseed loaves using the beautiful flour grown and milled locally in Cambridgeshire.
On Friday we will have all of the above plus some Rugbrøds, Walnut & Fig Sourdoughs and some Double Cheese Sourdoughs.
And on Saturday we will have the beautiful Dark Malt Sourdough on offer (instead of the Malted Multiseed). We've only offered this once before at the shop as the flour is hard to get hold of. But it's worth the wait. As the name suggests it is a beautifully dark brown, savoury sourdough with caramel and malted flavours and a sprinkling of seeds. Again, the flour is grown and milled locally and I believe you can taste that in the bread itself. If you haven't tried one before I urge you to try and get hold of one on Saturday.
So there we go. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the shop over the week.
Megan
